In the Friulian homes of the early 20th century, the centre of daily activities was around the fireplace, in the local dialect known as “Fogolâr”. Here is where all the family’s food was cooked and hence a lot of communication and social interaction took place.
Old people told bedtime stories to their grandchildren, women gathered to knit and talk after a hard day’s work, men rested and sipped a glass of wine in company. It was a place of encounter, exchange and sharing.
